Classes

RPCNS successfully provides a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of young children. Adhering to the cooperative model of nursery school, the children’s parents are directly involved in the classroom experience, enriching the school with their expertise and life experiences, as well as a strong sense of community and support. It is so important for a child’s (and their family’s) first school experience to be positive and nurturing, making it possible for the child to thrive and learn to their potential.

We know how crucial play is for children. It is through play that children learn to use all their senses to gather information, think, create, manipulate, experiment, develop the confidence to try something new and perfect their social interactions.

Our curriculum meets a wide variety of needs, depending on the age group and developmental stage of the children. Our teachers’ lesson plans take into consideration the abilities and interests of their students, and provide activities where the children can be active learners in a hands-on environment. Each day in class is a balance of indoor and outdoor, small and large group activities. Children are given the opportunities to make choices which helps to develop their sense of self-confidence and self-esteem. Over the course of the school year, each grade’s curriculum covers topics in the arts (including weekly music class); personal and social development; physical development and health; social studies; math and science; literacy and language arts in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Our goal for our students is for them to become independent, confident learners, who have mastered the classroom skills and acquired the academic background they’ll need in order to continue as successful students in elementary school.

The RPCNS school year runs from September to June and generally follows the Montgomery County Public School calendar.
